What I have come up with are things I'd like to be about. What do I mean by that? Well, I want it to be more than a to-do list. Corrie and I talk a lot about being vs. doing, that is, our lives are defined by who we are, not by what we do or accomplish. We live in a world of upward mobility, where moving up and doing more is what defines our lives. But is that what life is all about? And more importantly, as a follower of Jesus and lover of God, is that what God is calling us to be about as we live our lives?
So my list is centered around things I want to be in my thirtieth year, not just things I want to do. Here they are:
- Run a marathon
- Be a vegetarian for one month
- Read one classic work of fiction every month
- Take a 5 day monastic retreat
- Get Corrie flowers for no reason multiple times
- Take Isaiah to Braves opening day in April
- Read through one book of the Bible every month
- Be more organized and productive at work
- Write something significant every month
- Take a weekend away with just Corrie
- Give Corrie more time to pursue her studies

Great thoughts. Judy and I are taking the Experiencing God study for the third time. However, this time I see it as being more about "being" what God wants you to be and if we do that then the "doing" will fall into the right place and have the right priority in our life. God wants us to be open to his moving and if we focus on being the person he wants us to be then we can sense that movement and understand where he is working.

hmmmm... I love number 5. And number 10. And number 11.
Happy Birthday! :) What a great idea...and I'm with you about Nouwen. I think that I need to make "Read something by Nouwen once a month" one of my things!
